Xiangxi places and dishes recommended to tourists

The launch ceremony of the Hunan Cuisine Tourism Map was held in Changsha recently, and 10 Hunan cuisine tourism routes and Hunan gold-medal tourist snacks were launched.

Many places in Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture were selected into the tour route of Wuling Mountainous area. Five Xiangxi dishes including Xiangxi pickles, Tujia fried rice and sour meat made the list of Hunan’s 100 gold-medal tourist snacks. Xiangxi pickles was also rated as one of Hunan’s most popular tourist snacks among consumers. The tour route of Wuling Mountainous area connects the dishes and scenic areas of Xiangxi Prefecture and Zhangjiajie City, allowing tourists to experience the charm of Western Hunan.

The itinerary of Xiangxi Prefecture is as follows: Laosicheng in Yongshun County, Furong Town in Yongshun County, Morong Miao Village in Guzhang County, Jishou City, Fenghuang Jixin Food Street, Fenghuang Ancient Town, Aizhai-Shibadong-Dehang Grand Canyon Scenic Area, and Bamian Mountain in Longshan County. On this route, tourists can visit Furong Ancient Town and Fenghuang Ancient Town, appreciate the sea of clouds at Aizhai Bridge, and experience the ancient heritage at Site of Laosicheng Tusi Domain.

They can also taste delicious Xiangxi food along the route, like Xiangxi pickles, rice tofu and Duck with Duck Blood Cakes.

The dietary culture integrates the cooking skills and tastes of different places. The dishes are sour and hot. Chili powder, sour radish, sour beans, etc. are all characteristic ingredients of Xiangxi. Xiangxi cuisine is also famous for its freshness and original flavor. Native chicken, native duck and wild fish are the favorite ingredients of local people. Dishes cooked with these ingredients are very popular among people. Such dishes as Qianzhou Duck, and Miao Sour Meat have become famous Xiangxi dishes. Xiangxi Beef Balls in Sour Soup has been rated as the 2023 classic Hunan cuisine.
